Remember the tangy taste of lemon?

This tanginess is due to the presence of citric acid. But beyond the tanginess, citric acid has many benefits and we are here to tell you everything you need to know about it.

What is citric acid?
Citric acid is a naturally occurring phytochemical in citric fruits and their juices. In ayurveda, foods like lemon, vinegar, orange, yogurt, etc. are considered as “pitta-aggravating foods” which means that they can aggravate one’s stomach. Therefore, many people consume.

In ayurveda, Earth and Fire are the primary elements of sour foods. These sour foods have a good effect on lungs by promoting healthy flow of bile juice due to its moistening and demulcent effects. Furthermore, we must also know that consuming healthy food – rich in citric acid – helps us combat everyday stress.

Use of citric acid?
– Preserves the texture of food
– Acts as solvent for cleaning
– Acts as alkalizing agent
– Adds fragrance in beauty products

Benefits of citric acid
1. Anti-inflammatory effects
Citric acid, just like Flavonoids, helps the human body combat oxidative stress. According to a study, citric acid downregulates inflammation by reducing cell degranulation.

2. Alkalizing properties
You’ll be surprised to know that despite its acidic taste, citric acid acts as an alkalizing substance. It helps the body counteract against the harmful effects of consuming excessively acidic foods.

3. Prevents kidney stones
According to a study, “citric acid is protective; the more citric acid in your urine, the more protected you are against forming new kidney stones.”

4. Improves skin health
Citric acid promotes skin peeling and regrowth, and it also protects the skin against photo-aging, oxidative stress and damage caused due to pollution.

The best way to consume citric acid is through fruits, vegetables and supplementary ayurvedic products that we provide for you. Let’s have a look at our in-store, solvent-free, botanical extracts that contain citric acid.

Prevent cancer with Tannins!

banner-img-emailer

If you could choose only one drink for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Well, we would say you should choose tea without a second thought!

Everyone knows that tea is a delicious and refreshing drink but do you also know it has many health benefits? The health benefits of tea are only due to TANNINS!

Let’s know more about tannins!
Tannins are a group of phytochemical compounds that can be found in tea and other edible ayurvedic products, and are responsible for providing many health benefits. It is classified among polyphenols and has a bitter, astringent taste. It is naturally found in tree bark, leaves, legumes and a variety of other edible/inedible plants.

Do you know?

Black tea has the highest concentration of tannins followed by green tea!

health
Health benefits of tannins
1. Antioxidant in nature
Similar to flavonoids, the most well-known benefit of tannins is its antioxidative nature which in turn helps our body combat against oxidative stress

2. Anti-inflammatory properties
The antioxidant properties of tannins help the human body fight inflammation by balancing the bacteria in your gut, thereby, turning off the inflammation from the gastrointestinal glands. Does this property remind you of alkaloids? (We talked about it in our previous mailer)

3. Protection against heart diseases
Due to everyday stress, heart diseases are extremely common. Tannins keep the heart tissues healthy by preventing calcium buildup in arteries.

The health benefits of tannins do not end here, they help balance blood sugar levels and also contain cancer-preventing properties. While sipping tea is a good source of tannins, there’s only so much tea that one can consume in a day.

Our herbal extracts provide a much stronger concentration of Tannins in them for immediate medicinal use.

Alkaloids to fight COVID-19

While the world grappled with COVID-19, scientists were discovering a treatment for it.

Here’s some good news – scientists have made a promising discovery.

The prominent antiviral effects of alkaloids could be an effective candidate towards discovering effective treatments for COVID-19.

Well, according to a recent study, marine/plant-derived alkaloids with prominent anti-SARS-CoV-2 effects could be promising candidates for COVID-19 treatment. Their antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antitussive and lung injury, immunomodulatory, and protective effects could act against neurotoxicity, cardiotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and hepatotoxicity.

This is amazing news for the world, isn’t it? Also, let’s not forget that phytochemicals in ayurvedic products have always been important since ancient times!

On the other hand, some simple yet significant therapeutic benefits of alkaloids include their ability to treat:

Ward off harmful toxins with flavonoids

How common is it for us to develop skin allergies or feel oxidative stress piling in our body?

Modern-day health issues.

Well, health issues are no longer uncommon owing to the ever-increasing pollution, environmental conditions and lack of essential nutrients in our bodies.

So, let’s continue to talk about one more beneficial phytochemical – flavonoids!

What are flavonoids?
Like saponins, flavonoids too are a diverse group of plant polyphenols. They are commonly known for their antioxidant activities that aid in warding off harmful toxins from our bodies. This antioxidant activity has been the most interesting property of flavonoids due to their ability to reduce the free radical formation and scavenge free radicals.
icon2
What do flavonoids do?
– Flavonoids aid in regulating cellular activity and combat free radicals, which cause oxidative stress in the body.
– Flavonoids as antioxidants assist in combating potentially hazardous chemicals that enter the body. Although your body produces antioxidants naturally, consuming ayurvedic products rich in flavonoids is a good decision.
– Flavonoids also provide strong antioxidant protection to the skin and reduce the risk of potential harm caused by UV radiation with their anti-allergic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties.

Well, these are quite some amazing benefits indeed!

Saponins for a healthy body

What is one thing that all of us have in common nowadays?

Modern-day health issues.

According to a 2015 survey, over 95% of the world’s population has health problems, with over a third having more than five ailments. And we’re sure this percentage would’ve increased in the last 7 years owing to everyday stress.

Nowadays, people are dealing with health problems such as cholesterol, digestive disorders, fever, cough, bronchitis, rheumatic diseases, and a lot more. In one of our earlier blog posts, we talked about adaptogens that help the body deal with stress.

But today, we’ll talk about a plant-derived medicinal compound family that can tackle many health issues.

Saponins
Saponins are naturally occurring phytochemicals which offer tremendous health benefits by binding to bile acids in the digestive tract and eliminating them from the body. This, in turn, helps to wash away toxins from the body. These phytochemicals also aid in fighting many skin problems such as dandruff, hyperpigmentation, and psoriasis.

Our extraction process
At NJP, we extract saponins through the process of traditional hot water decoction. This allows us to not only extract saponins out of plant materials but also avoid introducing any harmful solvents into your products, your body and the environment.

Ayurvedic secrets that go skin-deep

We Indians testify to having grown up on our grandmothers’ home remedies that are relevant even today.

Though our fast-paced lifestyle doesn’t allow us to devote enough time to pursue these remedies. Nevertheless, our grandmothers, until today, advocate their remedies with pride.

You might’ve heard your grandmother urging you to apply Chandan (Sandalwood), Rose Water, Amla (Gooseberry), Neem, etc on your face to tackle acne and add more glow to your skin.

Ugh… those good old days!

With this realisation in mind, people are ditching harmful cosmetics and show no regret in switching back to natural products. One reason behind this changed mindset is that Ayurveda is 100% harmless and can be trusted. All Ayurvedic products contain no sulphate, no paraben, and not even a slight trace of any harmful chemical.
So, why not switch to natural products for all types of skincare requirements?

As Coco Chanel rightly said,
Caring about beauty, it is necessary to start with the heart and soul, otherwise, no makeup will help.

Ayurveda is known to maintain a balance between nature and our bodies; ultimately leading to a healthier body. Come, let’s talk more about Ayurveda for the skin!

Why choose ayurvedic cosmetics?

Zero side effects: Ayurvedic products have natural preservatives, and they do not harm the skin but rather act as a protecting layer for it.
Environment friendly: Ayurvedic raw materials are easy to gather from natural surroundings and cause no harm to the environment.
Soothes the skin: People prefer ayurvedic products over cosmetic products because they are devoid of irritants and work better on the skin.

Wellness materials for the smart consumer!

Ancient Ayurveda for the Modern Stress

Stress is a fairly universal element of our human experience. Emergence of technology made human lives easier, but it didn’t automatically make us happier. On the contrary, the pressures of modern urban life has led to a drastic rise in the incidence of chronic stress and anxiety disorders. We all have our (seemingly) unique stressors. But is this stress playing a bigger role in our life than we would like it to?

The scientific and non-scientific literature highlights the role of chronic stress and anxiety in the onset of some serious (and chronic) ailments like diabetes and heart disease. Stress in Ayurveda is viewed as a nervous system disturbance. The roots of this disturbance are to be found in the balance of natural energy or doshas that govern our physical and psychological traits.

In this newsletter, we explore whether the ancient ayurvedic approach is the solution for the modern-day stress.

Modern stress management
The modern system of medicine is still in need of an effective anti stress agent. Though there are drugs that claim to have antistress activity, they do not fulfill the criteria of a true, safe and specific anti stress agent.

The Ayurvedic perspective
The fact that ‘prevention is better than cure’ is well recognized in Ayurveda, as its foremost objective is the maintenance and promotion of the health of the healthy. Ayurveda also recognises that there will always be stressors that we can’t control and encourages our nervous systems to respond to these situations in a healthier way which is the key to reclaiming our health.

The following Ayurvedic ingredients offer unique solutions in dealing with stress:

AshwagandhaAshwagandha
Used by people of all ages to improve mood, memory, stress and anxiety, as well as a boost in muscle strength
Shatavari
Has adaptogenic qualities. Potent nervine tonic.
Brahmi
Has adaptogenic qualities. Used to treat insanity or epilepsy.
Yashthimadhu
Has antistress, antidepressive benefits.
Jatamansi
Beneficial for pain relief and smooth menstrual flow.
Kauncha
Has multiple applications as a nervine tonic & local stimulant.

This is by no means an exhaustive list.

Click here to check all our 200+ products and their benefits.

Ayurvedic products for Stress Management
Ayurvedic health-care products are mainly available in capsules or supplements. Some herbs can be eaten as a part of the meal and some are even brewed into teas. Brahmi medicated oil has proven to be effective in postnatal care for both the mother and the newborn child. Innovative products like ayurvedic stress relief patches are slowly gaining mainstream popularity.

A better tomorrow
Stress begets more stress and therefore sometimes antistress agents are required to break this cycle. We may never get rid of this stress, we can only learn to deal with it better.

Ayurveda offers healthy and non-toxic ways of stress management. Innovative and non-toxic products in conjunction with a healthy diet, exercise and sleep schedule can help mitigate the stress of modern life. With the wisdom of Ayurveda behind us, it is our collective dream to create a life of balance and vibrant health for all of us.

There is a new buzzword going around in the wellness industry and it is already setting new health trends across the world. The word is Adaptogens. But what exactly are these adaptogens and why is the West talking about them?

Read on, we’ll explain why you too should take more interest in this.Adaptogens are non-toxic plants that are marketed to have peculiar health benefits. They help the body deal with stress. The theory behind these adaptogens is that they stimulate your body’s stress-protection response against stressors of all kinds, whether physical, chemical, or biological. As the name suggests, these herbs and plants are designed to help you adapt to stress.

Have you seen these adaptogen herbs or plants before?

Yes! These herbs and roots have been used for centuries in Ayurveda but they’re having a renaissance today. These adaptogens include holy basil (tulsi), ashwagandha, Amalaki, Shatavari, etc. These plants have always been around in India and Indian ayurvedic health products.

So, why are these adaptogens suddenly getting so popular?
After the Covid-19 pandemic, people have turned more conscious of their immune power. They are more mindful of their health and by opposition, all the stressors. Adaptogens are gaining popularity because of three main factors- they are non-toxic, they are taken in normal quantities and research has shown that these adaptogens interact with the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which regulates the stress response, metabolism and immune system responses. By influencing the HPA axis, the belief is these adaptogens keep your stress levels in a more neutral state.

If this is just another trend, why should you care?
We should be excited that mainstream media is getting aware of the ancient wisdom of Indian herbs and rare plants. This awareness, backed by science, brings a mindful change in how people are taking care of their own health. This is why we believe this is not just a trend. This is a realization. With more and more conversations and research, this realization is only growing stronger. For you, this is not just a trend, this is an exciting opportunity. If people are seeking healthier ways of living, your business can provide innovative products and services that help these people lead a healthier and happier life.

Let’s look at how these adaptogens are currently consumed.
Some of these herbs like holy basil can be eaten as a part of the meal and some are consumed as supplements or brewed into teas. Many of these adaptogens are available in capsules as well. You may have also used some medicated oils. Products of ashwagandha are already gaining market share in the gym and dietary supplements and in the beauty industry as well. These adaptogens can be useful for people of all ages across all walks of life.

The road ahead…
Instead of waiting for the ‘marketing’ to educate the world about adaptogens, you can stay ahead of the curve with your unique products and services. With our high-quality raw materials, your products can provide the solution that people all over the world are actively seeking.
